چکیده

This.&wwill describe contemporaneous measurements of cloud backscatter by a W-band radar and amid-infrared coherent lidar acquired during a mission aboard the NASA DC-8 research aircraft in summer of 1996. Conclusions gathered from intercomparison will be compared to the results from previous ground-based studies of a similar nature.

Conditional Random Fields for Airborne Lidar Point Cloud Classification in Urban Area

Over the past decades, urban growth has been known as a worldwide phenomenon that includes widening process and expanding pattern. While the cities are changing rapidly, their quantitative analysis as well as decision making in urban planning can benefit from two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) digital models. The recent developments in imaging and non-imaging sensor technologies, s...

Measurements and Simulations of Nadir-Viewing Radar Returns from the Melting Layer at X- and W-Bands

Simulated radar signatures within the melting layer in stratiform rain, namely the radar bright band, are checked by means of comparisons with simultaneous measurements of the bright band made by the EDOP (X-band) and CRS (W-band) airborne Doppler radars during the CRYSTALFACE campaign in 2002. A stratified-sphere model, allowing the fractional water content to vary along the radius of the part...

Detection of Ice Hydrometeor Alignment Using an Airborne W-band Polarimetric Radar

This paper presents airborne W-band polarimetric radar measurements at horizontal and vertical incidence on ice clouds using a 95-GHz radar on the University of Wyoming King Air research aircraft. Coincident, in situ measurements from probes on the King Air make it possible to interpret polarimetric results in terms of hydrometeor composition, phase, and orientation. One of the key polarimetric...

Forest Biomass Estimation at High Spatial Resolution: Radar vs. Lidar sensors

This study evaluates the biomass retrieval error in pinedominated stands when using high spatial resolution airborne measurements from fully polarimetric L-band radar and airborne laser scanning sensors. Information on total aboveground biomass was estimated through allometric relationships from plot-level field measurements. Multiple linear regression models were developed to model relationshi...

Comparison of Millimeter-Wave Cloud Radar Measurements for the Fall 1997 Cloud IOP

One of the primary objectives of the fall 1997 intensive observation period (IOP) was to intercompare Ka-band (35 GHz) and W-band (95 GHz) cloud radar observations and verify system calibrations. During September 1997, several cloud radars were deployed at the Southern Great Plains (SGP) Cloud and Radiation Testbed (CART) site, including the full time operation 35-GHz CART millimeterwave cloud ...
